Nowhere to Run- Nowhere to Hyde? "Son of Dr. Jekyll"- Tonight!

Posted on by

It’s another “like father, like son” comparison tonight on MeTV-  though those pushing the family similarities are more sensationalists out to cause trouble- as the young offspring of the two-faced “good doctor turned savage monster” learns of his family heritage, and sets out to clear his father’s tarnished reputation- only to head down a similar sinister road- claiming his birthright as the “Son of Dr. Jekyll”!

The story opens as the senior Jekyll, after committing a horrendous act, flees from an angry mob – heading to his lab- and meeting his demise while trying to escape. Two of the doctor’s close friends –Utterson and Lanyon- witness the scene, and head back to the scene of the crime- finding  Jekyll’s now-orphaned baby son. It is decided that Utterson will raise the child, not letting him know about his horrid family history.

Thirty years have gone by- and young Edward is engaged to Utterson’s lovely niece Lynn. There is some bad news , though- Edward is being expelled from the science academy for performing unorthodox experiments! It is right about that time when Utterson and Lanyon decide that Edward should know the truth about his father- as the time has come for him to gain his inheritance. Edward gets the news, and the key to his father’s old place- and decides to move in. When he finds his father’s old laboratory- he feels compelled to continue his dad’s work- and prove that the formula he created could change human behavior- and that his father was indeed NOT a monster in real life. Of course, he is also battling public perception- while local “news” people set him up in what appear to be violent circumstances, causing his neighbors to be frightened that the son is indeed a successor to the evil Hyde!

He continues his experimentation- but other hidden agendas cause conflict for him, putting his career and life in peril! Has Edward used his father’s formula to go to the dark side of human nature- and again prey upon the frightened populace?

This 1951 film is thought to be a sort of sequel to the 1941 Spencer Tracy “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”- though it adds a twist to that film’s conclusion. We’ll introduce cast members, including Louis Hayward as the doctor’s son. We’ll also provide a new song, a less-than hair-raising product, and  another edition of the popular Sven game, “Too Drawn Out”!

We’ve been told that some providers are listing our show this week as the movie title instead of as “Svengoolie”- so, if you plan on setting your system to record it- PLEASE check how your provider has the show listed. We don’t want you to miss it!

"Son of Dr. Jekyll" makes his appearance tonight on MeTV at 8pm eastern/pacific, 7 central, or, if you need more information on where and when to find the show in your area, just check your local listings, or at  www.metv.com .You can also join the horde of Sven fans on Twitter  during the show, who live-Tweet as the show runs, using the hashtag #svengoolie . All that Tweeting continues to keep us trending nationally every week! In the Chicago area, viewers can get one more visit to the “House of Dracula” this morning at 11 am on WCIU, the U.

If you’re in the Milwaukee area tonight, you can record our show and come visit me live at the Midwest Gaming Classic at the Wisconsin Center from 6 to 8 pm. You can also play all sorts of games- for free- with admission! Find all the information under the “appearances” tab here on our site.

You only have until midnight, April 20th, to get in your votes in the Rondo Awards! The awards committee has stated that some of the categories are very close- so your vote is important in deciding the favorites in horror and science fiction! Vote in as many or as few categories as you wish- but follow all the instructions, so your vote will count! Yes, I’m again nominated as “favorite horror host” – but I urge you to vote for WHOEVER your favorite is! The ballot is at  www.rondoaward.com

There will be some great things happening associated with this being the anniversary year of me becoming Sven 40 years ago. We hope to reveal a few very soon, so keep checking back here!

And- join us tonight to see if the rotten apple indeed does not fall far from the tree- as we see if you can run- but- can you Hyde?

I see the post of The Dale Who Cried "Wolf!" @ 9 hrs ago.
I found your indigestion comment hidden by one of those tiny red "load previous comments" lines.

Why other comments have disappeared? It's a mystery to me.

The eve of Edward Bernd's VALLEY OF THE DRAGONS (1961) guest starring the giant spider from Edward Bernd's WORLD WITHOUT END (1956).
O! I am awaiting the anticipation!
(This deserves lotsa Sven Shtick. )
This is one fact I'll be pointing out in my post-Midnight movie review.
Edward Bernds -- recycling hero of the 20th Century!
Absolutely, Carl, long before that term was coined!

I still don't understand whatever objections there could possibly be to the Tex Avery howling wolf cartoon, but it's gone again, along with my defense of its content, and its appropriateness as a reply to Carl's earlier post about Mara Corday abd Joan Staley. It is no different from Sven's humor on topics like this, and the Administrator has assured us long ago that posts sticking to his comedic approach, as this one did, are fine. If any bloggers objected to the clip and flagged the post, I'd ask you to keep the Administrator's own words on such matters in mind. Let's also remember thar Avery was among those who had a hand in the creation of Bugs Bunny, so should we start flagging posts about the "wabbit" while we're at it?
